Cancer Leadership will take Henry Ford + MSU to the Next Level
Henry Ford Health + Michigan State University Health Sciences announced a new triad leadership team that will take the partnership’s cancer endeavors to the next level and advance their shared goal of National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation.
“By combining the cancer programs at Henry Ford Health and MSU, we are able to reach new heights, drive innovations, improve cancer prevention and outcomes, combat health disparities, and inspire hope,” said Norm Hubbard, Henry Ford + MSU president and MSU Health Science senior vice president.
This new leadership team includes the Henry Ford + MSU Cancer Committee co-chairs Benjamin Movsas, M.D., Henry Ford Cancer medical director and Radiation Oncology chair, and Jeff MacKeigan, Ph.D., MSU Office of Research and Innovation senior advisor.
Completing this triad leadership team with Movsas and MacKeigan will be Executive Strategic Consultant Derek Raghavan, M.D., Ph.D. Raghavan is an internationally recognized leader in oncology with research focuses in genitourinary cancer, the development of anticancer agents, preclinical models, clinical trials and trial design, geriatric oncology, and disparities of care.
Throughout his career, Raghavan has served in several leadership roles including the founding president of the Levine Cancer Institute in Charlotte, North Carolina, and the Taussig Cancer Institute director and Frank Rudy Distinguished chair at the Cleveland Clinic. He also has vast experience in developing and leading NCI-designated cancer programs.
“It is one of Henry Ford + MSU ‘s goals to combine and connect cancer research and clinical applications,” said Adnan Munkarah, M.D. Henry Ford + MSU board chair and President, Care Delivery System and Chief Clinical Officer, Henry Ford Health. “Through this collaboration, we plan to create a national and international destination for access to the most advanced cancer therapies and research.”
Together, this executive team — in collaboration with the partnership’s academic and clinical cancer community — will lead a comprehensive assessment of the cancer landscape at Henry Ford and MSU, define and launch a strategic roadmap and activation plan, and support the recruitment of cancer center faculty.
“We are confident that this is the right team to lead us in charting our course for a premier cancer center,” said Teri Grieb, Henry Ford + MSU chief administrative officer. “Together they will help build a unifying culture for Henry Ford + MSU cancer research, education, and care.”
