Dr. Michael Lewis Named Founding Chair of the MSU College of Human Medicine Department of Anesthesia
In a significant development for our Henry Ford Health + Michigan State University Health Sciences partnership, Dr. Michael Lewis has been named the founding chair of the Department of Anesthesia at Michigan State University College of Human Medicine – effective April 1. Now serving in a dual capacity, Dr. Lewis’ appointment complements his role as the Chair of the Department of Anesthesiology, Pain Management & Perioperative Medicine at Henry Ford Health, and underscores the deepening collaboration between Henry Ford Health and MSU.
The partnership aims to enhance medical education, foster innovative research, and improve healthcare services across the state. The MSU Department of Anesthesia, supported by the expertise of faculty from the Henry Ford Medical Group, will play a pivotal role in educating the next generation of medical professionals and advancing patient care throughout Michigan.
This collaboration highlights the commitment of both institutions to creating a statewide department that will engage students and faculty from all of the college’s eight campuses, driving forward the mission to improve healthcare in the communities we serve.
Dr. Lewis, who has served in this role at MSU on an interim basis since August 2022, brings a wealth of clinical, academic and leadership experience to this position. His distinguished career spans significant leadership roles, including positions at the University of Miami and the University of Florida College of Medicine in Jacksonville, before his tenure at Henry Ford Health.
