Christopher H. Contag, Ph.D.

Christopher H. Contag, Ph.D., is the founding director of the Institute for Quantitative Health Science and Engineering at MSU and was the inaugural chair of MSU’s Department of Biomedical Engineering. Contag is also a professor emeritus in the Department of Pediatrics at Stanford University School of Medicine.

Contag was on the faculty at Stanford School of Medicine from 1995 to 2016 in the departments of pediatrics, radiology, bioengineering, and microbiology and immunology. In 2016, he joined the faculty of Michigan State University. Contag is a founding member and past president of the Society for Molecular Imaging (SMI) and current fellow and past president of the World Molecular Imaging Society (WMIS).

Contag received his bachelor’s degree in biology and a Ph.D. in microbiology from the University of Minnesota. He completed his postdoctoral training at Stanford University.
