WHAT TO EXPECT

During the Henry Ford + MSU Neuroscience Research Symposium, attendees can look forward to:

  • Keynote Speaker: Hear from Walter Koroshetz, M.D., former director of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS) from 2015-2026.
  • Scientific Presentations: Hear from trainees, leading researchers, and clinicians as they share cutting-edge findings across the field of neuroscience.
  • Poster Session: Present original research and receive valuable feedback from peers and experts.
  • Networking Opportunities: Connect with colleagues throughout the day in a setting designed to foster collaboration.

The final agenda will be shared closer to the symposium date.

POSTER AND/OR TRAINEE TALK SUBMISSION GUIDELINES 

Complete the survey below if you are interested in presenting a poster and/or submitting an abstract for consideration to deliver a brief scientific talk. Please note that only trainees are eligible to be selected for a scientific talk.

All are welcome to submit a poster, either broadly overviewing their research, clinical, education program, and/or, on specific projects. This includes researchers, clinicians, trainees, health care professionals, and others with an interest in neuroscience research from Michigan State University and Henry Ford Health.  

Review the poster guidelines before submitting to present at the Henry Ford + MSU Neuroscience Research Symposium. 

  • Submission Deadline: September 28, 2026  
  • Selection Process:  
    - Posters: Space is limited and posters will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. 
    - Trainee Talks: Selections will be made through review by the Henry Ford + MSU Neuroscience Planning Committee. Selected trainees will have the opportunity to sit with keynote speaker Dr. Walter Koroshetz at lunch during the symposium.
  • Important: To be considered, presenters must be registered to attend the Henry Ford + MSU Neuroscience Research Symposium.  
  • Notification: A confirmation email will be sent out shortly after the submission deadline for posters and/or talks that are selected.

MORE ABOUT THE KEYNOTE SPEAKER  

Potrait: Walter Koroshetz

Walter Koroshetz, M.D., served as director of the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke(2015-2026). He joined NINDS in 2007 as deputy director and has held leadership roles in a number of trans-NIH and NINDS programs including: co-leading the NIH’s BRAIN Initiative, the NIH RECOVER Initiative on Post Acute Sequelae of COVID-19, NIH Blueprint for Neuroscience, the TBI Center between the NIH and the Uniformed Health Services University, the Helping to End Addiction Long Term) Initiative as well as Accelerated Medicine Partnerships in Parkinson’s and ALS. He co-led a number of NIH Common Fund’s programs including the Undiagnosed Disease Network, the Acute to Chronic Pain Transition programs, Somatic Gene Editing program and Somatic Mosaicism in Human Tissue. He founded the BRAIN Initiative NeuroEthics Working Group and was an active member. In 2020, he received the International Neuroethics Society’s 2020 Steven Hyman Award for Distinguished Service. Before joining NINDS, Koroshetz served as vice chair of the neurology service and director of stroke and neurointensive care services at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH). He was a professor of neurology at Harvard Medical School (HMS) and led neurology resident training at MGH between 1990 and 2007. His early research in the lab and clinic focused on Huntington’s disease and with the team at MGH performed the first study of pre-symptomatic testing.
