Partnership Meets to Foster Communication and Collaboration Around Trauma and Recovery

Recently, Henry Ford Health and Michigan State University gathered on the MSU campus to discuss the various initiatives around trauma, recovery and resiliency at each organization.

“With the newly formed partnership, we really wanted to leverage the resources and expertise both organizations offer to better understand and tackle issues around trauma, community violence, resiliency and recovery,” said, Ali Lakhani, PTA, B.S.Ed., Henry Ford Health Trauma Recovery Center clinical program manager. “And we were able to do just that!

During the meeting, Henry Ford’s Trauma Recovery Center (TRC) and Trauma & Resiliency Informed Community Healthcare Organization (TRICHO) presented as well as various MSU departments and colleges, such as representatives from MSU Trauma Services and Training Network.

“It was truly exciting to learn about all the great work being done and the many opportunities to collaborate on areas such as translational research, workforce development, recovery programming and so much more,” said Lakhani.

The discussion included a presentation from Henry Ford Hospital Trauma Medical Director and Trauma Surgeon Jeffrey Johnson, M.D. Johnson spoke on the clinical aspects of providing trauma care and his potential collaboration with MSU College of Nursing Fabrice Mowbray, Ph.D. on collecting data for research in the emergency department. Henry Ford Senior Vice President of Community Health & Equity and Chief Wellness and Diversity Officer Kimberlydawn Wisdom, M.D., and her team discussed opportunities around organizational assessments, professional development, employee wellness resources and trauma-informed practices.

Other contributions to this discussion came from MSU Department of Psychology Professor and Co-Director Alytia Levendosky, Ph.D.; MSU School of Social Work Director of Continuing Education Gina Tremonti Gembel; and MSU Eli Broad Graduate School of Business Associate Dean of Research John Hollenbeck, Ph.D.

“This gathering exemplifies our commitment to seeking out new opportunities to bring together experts from both MSU and Henry Ford, said Teri Greib, Ph.D., Henry Ford + MSU Chief Administrative Officer. “We are excited to see where today’s collaborative discussuion will take the partnership next.”
