Henry Ford Health + Michigan State University Health Sciences is pleased to welcome Olivia Aspiras, Ph.D., to the Henry Ford + MSU Cancer Center as an assistant scientist and assistant professor. With an overarching goal of reducing cancer risk and advancing health equity across Michigan, Aspiras looks forward to collaborating with the exceptional researchers and clinicians at Henry Ford + MSU.

“I’m excited because this role will allow me to continue building on my ongoing cancer prevention work in Michigan while also developing new interdisciplinary collaborations and pursuing new directions that contribute to meaningful research that will improve cancer outcomes,” said Aspiras.
In this Henry Ford + MSU role, Aspiras will hold appointments in the Henry Ford Health Department of Public Health Sciences and in the Department of Family Medicine at Michigan State University.
“Dr. Aspiras brings valuable expertise in cancer prevention and health behavior research that will enhance the collaborative work of the Henry Ford + MSU Cancer Center,” said Jeff MacKeigan, Ph.D., Henry Ford + MSU Cancer Committee co-chair and MSU Office of Research and Innovation senior advisor.
Aspiras received her doctorate in experimental psychology at the University of Toledo with a specialization in social psychology. Her research bridges social psychology and public health to address psychosocial barriers to cancer prevention. She will also develop targeted interventions to reduce cancer disparities in underserved communities.
As an American Cancer Society postdoctoral fellow in the Charles Stewart Mott Department of Public Health at Michigan State University, Aspiras became especially passionate about increasing the uptake of Human Papillomavirus vaccinations through various experiences with community stakeholders and interdisciplinary research teams.
Aspiras explained that her educational and research experience has highlighted the urgent need for this work and the potential for meaningful impact in underserved and vulnerable communities.
“Dr. Aspiras' appointment strengthens our shared commitment to advancing cancer research and care across the communities we serve,” said Benjamin Movsas, M.D., Henry Ford + MSU Cancer Committee co-chair, Henry Ford Cancer medical director and radiation oncology chair.
