Shawn Hervey-Jumper, M.D., holds the Mitchel Berger, MD Endowed Professorship in Neurosurgery at the University of California, San Francisco. He also serves as the vice chair for education and the residency program director, in addition to being an NIH-funded investigator specializing in the surgical management of brain cancers within functional brain regions, using physiological mapping. His research investigates tumor-driven remodeling of neuronal circuits, focusing on the molecular mechanisms underlying activity-dependent tumor proliferation. His lab demonstrated that glioma-infiltrated cortex exhibits abnormal task-evoked neural responses, with malignant glioma stem-like cells enriched in tumor regions with heightened synaptogenic and neurotrophic activities.
